Education Neurologist to visit Geraldton

Minister for Regional Development, Terry Redman speaks to Students while announcing Community Chest funding.Geraldton is set to welcome neuroscience education specialist Dr Judy Willis for a series of workshops in early June.

The visit has been organised by the Neurology in Education Group and Mt Tarchoola Primary School teacher Jude Tupman with support from John Willcock College P&C.

Dr Willis has fifteen years experience as a practicing neurologist and a further ten years experience as a classroom teacher. She is the author of ten books about applying neuroscience research to classroom teaching strategies.

Ms Tupman said the Neurology in education group became aware of Ms Willis’s work though the “Mind up” program.

“Our group began to look at her work and we used some of here educational strategies effectively.”

“We decided to invite her to the Midwest and were very pleased when she accepted our invitation,” she said.

The John Willcock College and Geraldton Senior College P&C supported the Neurology in Education Group’s application for funding to support the visit and was successful in securing $18,000 through the Royalties for Regions Community Chest Funding.
